A couple years ago, when the Great Depression began, my husband and I decided to visit the country to learn about the Depression, and we came to a decision.
We would go to our own country, to see the country for ourselves, and see what was going on.
We thought, We can’t afford to stay here.
And so, we left.
The country was a little bit of a different place.
The people were different.
The places were different, the people were a little different.
We wanted to make a trip to America that we were comfortable with, that we would want to stay in.
And then we realized we were living in a different world.
We were living with a different culture, and it’s a whole different world that we’re living in now.
But, we had seen the Depression.
We had seen how difficult it was to recover from the Depression and the Great Recession.
We knew that we could make it.
We didn’t want to be stuck there for a long time.
And we wanted to be able to travel and experience the United States.
We started our trip to the United Kingdom in September of this year.
So, we decided to get married there, and have our own little family there.
We went back to America in May.
And I think, we were ready to leave.
We made it.
And the next thing you know, we have our family here.
But then, we began to feel that we couldn’t afford the country.
We have no savings.
We’ve never been able to put a down payment on a home, let alone pay our rent.
So that was the beginning of the end of that.
I mean, the whole thing seemed pretty hopeless.
We felt like, We’ve lived here a long, long time, we’ve had money, and our kids are growing up here.
We’re going to need to be there.
And what would happen if we got caught up in the middle of a civil war?
The Great Depression is very, very real, and the worst thing you can do is live through it.
So we took a lot of stock in what was happening.
We did a lot research.
We talked to people.
We called the U.S. Government.
We found out a lot about the government.
But we couldn.
We couldn’t put together a plan to get out of there.
So then, there was a time where we thought, If we just leave, the United State is going to become a much bigger country.
I guess, the thing is, we’re just not ready to do that yet.
And it was difficult to leave the United, and difficult to stay.
But that’s what we decided.
So as we were planning our trip, we really began to rethink what we were going to do and what we wanted from our life.
And as we did that, we realized that we really weren’t going to be the same person again.
We weren’t the same people.
And there was no way we were making it out of that place.
We realized that there was something different that was going to come with us.
We began to think about what that would be, and what it would look like.
What is it?
What does it mean?
How is it going to change my life?
And then, the next day, we saw this news article on the television.
It said, The Last of The Wild West.
And, we knew it was going.
And now, I’m going to say, It’s been a long road to get here.
It’s not over.
We will continue to fight for our country, our families, and for all of our friends and neighbors.
And all of that is what we want to do.
It was so exciting.
It made us feel like we were finally in the country, in this country, and that we didn’t have to be worried about getting caught up.
And that we weren’t even going to have to fight to make it out.
And this is the greatest country on earth, and they say it’s just like home.
It just feels that way.
And when we got to the border, it was such a relief to see this beautiful landscape that had never been seen before.
I remember being so nervous when we came across the U-Haul, because there was just nothing that we had ever seen.
We got there and we just walked around and looked around, and this was a very different place than we’d ever seen before, and so it was exciting to be here.
I think what we really found out was that we are more than just Americans, or Americans, and people.
I know that’s the title of the book, but we are actually people.
Our life is different than our family.
We don’t speak the same language.
We can never understand each other.
And our lives are different.
And those are the
